Llandrindod Wells 8 Caerau Ely 12
WITH all other matches in this league being postponed due to the weather, it says a lot for Llandrindod’s drainage system that this game took place at all.
Not that the weather did either side any favours, with the initial foul conditions gradually moderating to something more reasonable by the final whistle.
Playing downhill, Caerau Ely conceded a couple of penalties in kickable positions, with Sean Barrett taking full advantage in front of the posts to give the home side a slender lead. From then on though this half belonged to Caerau Ely who took full advantage of the slight slope to stretch their legs.
Two tries in short order, the second from a kick ahead and chase, were scored by firstly Lee Highgate and then by Danny Lovell, this one being converted by Nathan Camilleri to give Caerau Ely a nine point lead at the break.
For much of the second half, the advantage was with Llandrindod. A squeezed try by prop Lee James reduced the deficit to a mere four points, less than the value of a try.
Try as they might, and with Caerau Ely tiring, Llandrindod were unable to break through the Caerau Ely defence and the visitors were still ahead by the final whistle.
This week Llandrindod travel to Cowbridge in the League.
