WRU NATIONAL LEAGUE TWO WEST CENTRAL

PLAYERS from both Builth Wells and opponents Porthcawl took a moment before kick-off to observe a minute’s silence ahead of their fixture on Remembrance weekend.

Ahead of the game Builth Wells RFC planted poppies on stakes around their home pitch at the Groe to remember the 64 men from Builth who lost their lives in the First World War.

On the sporting field substitute Harry Jenkinson was the sporting hero for Builth, his boot secured victory in the final moments of the game with a booming penalty kick from deep in his own half.

It was the third placed sea-siders who had started strongest with their impressive backs scoring two good, converted, tries in the first half.

Builth’s forwards responded and number eight Alex Brown crossed in the corner to finish off a well worked back row move.

A Porthcawl penalty meant the visitors enjoyed a half-time lead of 5-17.

Bulls coach Ben Duggan made the decisive substitution at half time when he restored fullback Jenkinson, who had been rested as a precaution, to the Builth backline.

The home side were able to take advantage of Jenkinson’s tactical kicking which set up a driving line out that led to second row Lucas Evans touching down. Jenkinson added the extras to bring Builth back within one score.

Jenkinson further reduced the deficit with his first penalty of the day and Builth finally edged ahead when hooker Ben Pugh scored a third try.

An off-side penalty agains Builth however gave Porthcawl their first points of the second half which levelled the scores at 20-20.

A further exchange of penalties followed and in the final two minutes Jenkinson struck the winning kick but the Bulls still needed and controlled and organised defence to keep the visitors, who were threatening the Builth line, out.

Also in Division Two West Central action were Ystradgynlais. However the Blues fell to a 19-10 defeat away at table toppers Resolven.

Builth Wells are now fifth in the table and Ystradgynlais eighth.
