THE Builth Wells-based Bulls Cycling Club have again been well represented and have been fortunate to have a number of top cycling events held on the doorstep. Three big events have been held over the last week, incorporating three different cycling disciplines from road, to Cyclo cross, to mountain biking. For a small club, the Bulls are proving they are one to watch.
ROAD CIRCUIT
Starting on Saturday, September 9 with the Welsh Road Circuit Championships the Bulls had 10 entrants in this field which saw riders compete around a closed road circuit on the Royal Welsh Showground.
CYCLOCROSS
On Sunday, September 10, the showground played host to the first round of the Welsh Cyclocross league. A series of 12 races held across Wales, with cyclocross becoming one of the fastest growing sports across the UK, entries are high and competition tough and 26 riders racing for the Bulls Cycling Club entered this event. The course was one of the toughest of the season with fast road climbing sections, technical areas to test their handling skills and slippy, muddy banks. The races were tough from the start bell, competitors tussling for the front positions out of the arena before entering the narrow single track areas. The spectators cheered them on through the race, having the home crowd definitely helped spur the Bulls on to the finish line, where many races were fought out until the final lap.
MOUNTAIN BIKE
Finally, Saturday, September 16 saw the Welsh Cycling Dirt Crit finals. An event of coach led skills sessions, followed by skills racing where riders were assessed on their MTB skills.
