Head coach Dean Welton-Wall took seven athletes to the competition on August 8 and 9, where the team represented Wales and Powys in the B Division. They were joined by a team member from Scotland, who fitted into the squad brilliantly.

After two days of hard-fought basketball, the Powys team reached the final against The North and secured gold with a closely contested 9-6 victory.

The team had earlier beaten The North 5-0 and South Eastern Mids (SEM) 20-4 on the opening day. On day two, they again defeated The North, this time 10-6, before recording a convincing 26-4 win over SEM.

The athletes showed resilience and teamwork hroughout the tournament, overcoming aches, pains and injuries to reach the final and win the gold.

There was also success for the other Welsh side competing in the A Division, who battled through a tight final to ultimately claim a silver medal.

The squad’s achievement was made possible with support from Basketball Wales, which sponsored the team’s kit.

Thanks were also given to BISA, volunteer coaches, supporters, fundraisers, drivers and the volunteer staff who helped the team throughout the event.

“Without this collective effort, the team simply would not have made it to Manchester,” said Dean.

“I am extremely proud of the players, who were exemplary on and off the court. They truly are champions and were a credit to themselves, their families, their club, and their country.

“This is more than just a competition. It creates lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and opportunities that many athletes never thought possible. It shows what inclusive sport can achieve — confidence, belonging, and a sense of pride that lasts far beyond the final whistle.”
