Brecon High School has warned parents over speeding, dangerous parking and U-turns on the school road, saying a small number of drivers are putting learners at risk.

The school has also revealed that its local policing team has asked them to report dangerous or irresponsible driving.

Headteacher Rob Edwards issued the warning in a letter to parents and carers last week, saying the school continued to receive reports of vehicles being driven or parked in ways which could endanger learners.

Concerns include excessive speed, stopping on or near pedestrian crossings, U-turns on the school road and using bus bays for drop-off and collection.

Mr Edwards reminded parents that the school site has a 5mph speed limit and asked them to use designated parking bays when dropping off or collecting children.

“The safety of our learners is our highest priority,” he said.

“Whilst the vast majority of parents and carers use our site responsibly, we continue to receive reports of a small number of vehicles being driven or parked in ways that place learners at risk.”

He said the school was continuing to work with its local policing team on traffic management and site safety.

The letter said the police have asked the school to report “dangerous or irresponsible” driving.

Parents have been told not to stop on or near pedestrian crossings, use bus bays for drop-off or collection, or perform U-turns on the school road.

Mr Edwards acknowledged that using the designated parking bays could occasionally take longer, but said it was essential for the safety of learners, staff and visitors.

“A few extra moments taken to follow these arrangements can make a significant difference. By working together, we can ensure every learner arrives at and leaves school safely each day,” said Mr Edwards.
