A local conservation education organisation is set to launch a two-week paddling expedition along the River Wye today.

Wild Rivers, a community interest company founded in 2024, will launch its canoes at Glasbury before beginning the journey to Tintern.

The expedition aims to connect primary school children with the river and its natural heritage, with the team planning to stop at primary schools along the route to deliver educational sessions.

The Wild Rivers team will travel in handmade skin-on-frame canoes, delivering interactive workshops covering river ecology, land use and conservation.

The organisation was founded in response to what it describes as a disconnect between communities and the natural world.

Its aim is to encourage greater stewardship of the environment by combining outdoor exploration with environmental education.

Wild Rivers is inviting primary schools in the Wye Valley to get in touch if they would like to host a workshop during the expedition.

The organisation is also looking to work with local outdoor companies and is seeking equipment for the trip, including barrels, dry bags, personal flotation devices and paddles.
