Brecon is preparing for a flaky showdown as bakeries from across Wales compete to make the nation’s best croissant.

The first Wales’ Best Croissant competition will take place at Treberfydd House on Monday, November 16, with the winner taking home a national title and a bespoke trophy made by a Welsh blacksmith.

Sponsored by the Edinburgh Butter Co, the competition will see registered bakeries submit six plain croissants, all made using the company’s butter.

Bakers can use their own recipes, but there is no room for fancy fillings or decorations. Judges will score each entry on appearance, lamination, texture and flavour, with 25 marks available in each category.

Entries closed on October 30, so the competitors now have their sights set on the November contest.

Croissants must be delivered between 9am and 10am, with judging taking place during the morning. The winner will be announced at a prize-giving ceremony between 12.30pm and 2pm.
