Brecon Lions Club members joined service users from Cartrefi Cymru Co-operative Ltd for a day of competition at the annual Bob Cook Games in Swindon.

The event, organised by Chippenham Lions Club, attracted 191 entrants and was held at Swindon Athletic Club.

A coach provided by Williams Coaches left Brecon Bus Station at 7am, carrying competitors, support staff and a Brecon Lions member.

The games were first held in 1987 and were the idea of the late Bob Cook, Charter President of Chippenham Lions Club.

The Brecon group took part in the opening events after the games began at around 10:30am and went on to achieve success in a number of competitions. A total of 40 service users took part, with every competitor receiving a medal in recognition of their efforts.

Brecon Lions Club thanked Kirsty Hardwick and staff at Cartrefi Cymru for their support, as well as Williams Coaches driver Ieuan for for his kindness and consideration, and ensuring everyone had a safe and comfortable journey.

The club is now preparing for a major fundraising concert at Plough Chapel, Brecon, on Saturday, October 17. The concert starts at 7pm, with tickets priced at £10.

Performers will include Aberhonddu & District Male Choir, vocalist Jen Parry and the Brecon Sea Shanty Choir. Money raised will support the club’s charitable activities and help it continue its vital work in the local community.

The club said it had experienced a challenging period, with several members leaving and the loss of others who had gone on to what Lions refer to as “higher service”.

Now in its 54th year, Brecon Lions Club is seeking new members aged 18 and over to help provide service and support to Brecon and surrounding areas.
