A Brecon Slimming World consultant is celebrating after returning to the group where his own weight loss journey began - and helping members shed more than 132 stone in less than a year.
Bryan Collins, who runs the Thursday evening Slimming World group at Llanfaes Church Hall, first reached his target weight in August 2020 after many years as a member of Shelly Willetts’ group. But in 2024, his health deteriorated due to a virus affecting his respiratory system, leaving him faint when coughing and limiting his activity. As a result, the weight he had previously lost returned, and he reached his heaviest weight of 15½ stone.
Following advice from his respiratory consultant to lose at least two stone to ease pressure on his diaphragm and lungs, Bryan returned to Slimming World in April 2025.
“I knew the plan worked because it had worked for me before,” Bryan said. “Walking back into group felt like coming home.”
Bryan had previously been the consultant for the Llandrindod Wells Saturday morning group but stepped down in August 2024 due to ill health and being unable to drive. Shortly after returning as a member in Brecon, he was asked by Shelly Willetts if he would consider taking over the Thursday evening group so she could focus on her role as a Team Developer.
He agreed, initially as a relief consultant, before officially relaunching the group in July last year. Since then, members have lost an incredible 1,852lbs - more than 132 stone - in under a year.
Bryan now runs Slimming World every Thursday at Llanfaes Church Hall at 5pm and 6.30pm. He says the group is open to anyone wanting to improve their health and lose weight in a supportive environment.
