A Breconshire vineyard that defied odds in 2023 is now offering tours to members of the public.
Nicolas Prevost, a blacksmith from the south of France, decided in 2023 to see if he could make his own wine in the hills of Powys.
Back in 2023, Nicolas planted 300 vines by hand at Le Prevost Vineyard in Trallong, but now has 800 vines, with more to come.
Speaking to the Brecon and Radnor Express, Nicolas said: “I want to do small tours to tell my passion for growing to produce a quality local product.
“I want to showcase the Welsh countryside and sell some wine, which will enable me to carry on and try new varieties.
“The tours can be booked directly to me or my website and Instagram page. They will start the first weekend of June and will be held on evenings and weekends.”
Nicolas has lived in Powys for 20 years after being part of a travel group that visited Sennybridge when he was 20 years old. He wasn’t sure if the vineyard would work, and he is still juggling the wine business with his full-time job.
“I want to be recognised as a beautiful vineyard which grows grapes for a lovely wine,” Nicolas said. “The cost is mounting up after four years and the difficulty is in finding a customer base, especially with commercial businesses. The sales have been just enough to keep going.”
In 2023, Nicolas told us how he started out: “I did a course during the famous Covid winter. It was a vineyard growing course online, so I started from there but now you just sort of learn on the job.”
He had a vision to open the vineyard to tours from the start, and is glad to be offering them at long last.
