Thomas De Greeve from Builth Wells has recently published his first book, ‘Orphan in Descent.’
The book follows a child raised in a religious orphanage who rejects its teachings in favor of a family she sees in her dreams.
Talking about his first book, Thomas said: “It’s basically just about a religious orphanage, and one of the children who lives there - who isn’t vibing with the religion - starts having visions of another life that she would prefer to have, and grows increasingly sure that that life was real in some other time and some other place.”
When asked about how proud he is of his story, he said: “I think the headspace of a writer is that you’re never going to feel super content with it. You’re a bit like, ‘Argh, I could have done this better,’ but there’s a level of peace I’m at with it, I suppose, as long as I don’t read it again myself any time soon!”
Day to day, Thomas walks dogs in Builth Wells for local residents. Although he wrote some short stories in his younger years, this is his first published book. He also hints that he might have his eyes on writing more in the future.
“I’m open to writing more books,” he said. “But there’s things slowing me down and I would like to. At the moment I’m working with a writing group. We want to put out an anthology of short stories at some point so I’m trying to keep myself in the headspace of that at the moment.”
The 136-page book is available to purchase on Amazon in paperback at £4.50.
The book was first published early this summer on July 9, 2025.
