Powys County Council's cabinet survived, by just three votes, a bid to force it to give every councillor a say on the future of secondary education.

At an ill tempered special meeting of the full council on Monday, October 3 councillors had been asked to back a motion from opposition councillors that would have ensured all 73 members of the county council would vote on the final proposals in the council's secondary schools shake-up.

The motion was defeated by 31 votes to 28.
