AN AWARD-winning cameraman will be talking at an event in Crickhowell which looks at what it’s like to live with dementia.
Tim Jones from Crickhowell was part of the production team which filmed the family of Chris and Jane Roberts from north Wales over a two-year period to produce a documentary for BBC Panorama on living with the diagnosis.
Tim will be speaking about his experience while filming before the main talk, named ‘Living with Dementia’, by 55-year-old Chris Roberts who was diagnosed with early dementia five years ago.
The BBC programme has been nominated for a BAFTA Cymru Award as the ‘Best News and Current Affairs Programme’ – the winner will be announced on Sunday, October 8. It’s already won the TV News and Current Affairs Programme of the Year in the Welsh Media Awards.
Tim Jones said: “I am delighted that the programme is being recognised again because it shines a light on the remarkable work being done by people like Chris and Jane to raise awareness of dementia and how it is possible to live with it.”
Chris and Jane have given talks about dementia internationally and are considered to be champions for the Alzheimer’s Society.
Along with Tim, they will be speaking in Crickhowell at the Dragon Marquee on Saturday, September 16 at 6pm about the challenges of living with dementia, the possibilities of living an active life following diagnosis, and to put emphasis on the benefits in Crickhowell becoming ‘Dementia Friendly’.
Tickets are £15, which includes a glass of wine with cheese and biscuits, and the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia Matters in Powys (DMiP). For more information about tickets contact Suzan and Mike Aldertron, who run the Dragon Marquee, on [email protected] or by calling 07876 0857689.
