Two new pieces of play equipment have been installed at the King George V Playing Field at The Watton in Brecon, with local schoolchildren helping to decide what was chosen.

The additions were funded through a partnership between Brecon Town Council, Powys County Council, and a community Section 106 contribution. Pupils from Ysgol y Bannau were invited to share their ideas during a consultation led by town councillors, with their feedback shaping the final selection.

Mayor of Brecon, Cllr Marie Matthews, said the new facilities were already proving popular with families.

“We’re thrilled to see the new play equipment come to life - it’s already bringing smiles and laughter to local families. This investment creates a safe, inclusive, and engaging space for children to explore, play, and connect,” she said.

The project is part of a wider effort by the town council to upgrade play spaces and community facilities across Brecon.

Cllr Liz Rijnenberg added: “I’m delighted to see the new equipment installed. Thanks to all the children who took part in the consultation and to Brecon Town Council and Powys County Council for funding. It’s a great example of partnership working.”
