On Sunday, 7 December, Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team were tasked with a callout to the Rhondda Valley, where a couple had come off their walking route and were beginning to get cold and wet, with daylight running out.

The team were called out by South Wales Police, and responded by deploying team members and vehicles onto the mountain top through Pen y Cymoedd Wind Farm.

One of the Incident Controllers retained phone contact with the couple to gain accurate descriptions of their position.

In deteriorating weather, team members along with Search Dog Bran and Handler Josh from Search and Rescue Dog Association South Wales were deployed towards where they thought the couple were and in a short space of time they had them located and met with them for a check over.

A spokesperson for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said: “Thankfully they were both uninjured, so some rewarming, reassurance was administered and after a check over by one of our team doctors they were walked to our vehicles.

“After we got them back to their car and saw them safely away to home, we returned to base and were on our way our homes shortly after 7.30pm.”
