CONCERNS have been raised over the privatisation of Powys County Council's home care service.

The council says it intends to concentrate on delivering what it calls intensive 'reablement' care. Domiciliary or home care will then be delivered solely by private agencies or charities and voluntary organisations.

The council says it aims to strengthen the intensive short-term support it provides for older people to enable them to live as independently as possible and says it will ensure the quality of domiciliary care will be maintained.

It is negotiations with staff over them joining the reablement team of transferring their employment to private home care providers.

Brecon and Radnorshire Liberal Democrat AM Kirsty Williams and the council's Labour group have raised concerns over the switch to private providers.
