Morganstone Ltd has been appointed to replace outdated flats with 16 new energy‑efficient, one‑bedroom homes designed to meet modern housing needs and supporting the council's work to tackle the housing emergency while helping to build a Stronger, Fairer, Greener Powys.

Part funded by the Welsh Government, the new homes will be owned and managed by the council and allocated through Homes in Powys - the one‑stop shop for all social housing in the county.

The project, located in Ystradgynlais, will provide high‑quality, accessible homes in a well‑connected area close to local services, helping to support the long‑term sustainability of the community.

The development forms part of Powys County Council's wider programme to improve the quality of housing across the county and respond to local demand for affordable homes.

The homes will be built to high energy-efficiency standards, helping to reduce running costs for residents and supporting Powys County Council's wider sustainability and net-zero ambitions.

Cllr Matthew Dorrance, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for a Fairer Powys, said: "These new homes will make a real difference for local people in Ystradgynlais. We know there is a real need for good-quality, affordable homes in the area, and this development will help more people stay in their community, close to family, friends and local support.
