Consultation on the closure of Nantmel Church in Wales School has started.
Powys County Council is asking the pupils, parents, staff, governors and the wider public to have their say on the proposal. The council is proposing the closure of the school, under its Powys School Transformation Policy.
The decision to go to consultation was taken by the council’s Cabinet on December 15th. The consultation period started today and will last until 5pm on March 11.
“Pupil numbers have fallen from 51 in January 2010 to 33 in January 2015 and we were expecting a similar number of pupils on roll this January,” said Cllr Arwel Jones, Cabinet Member for Education.
“We have already had discussions with the school community itself but before we take a final decision, we’d like to hear everyone’s views on our proposal to close the school at the end of December this year.”
■ Residents can respond to the consultation by using the council’s website www.powys.gov.uk/haveyoursay. Copies of the consultation document and the survey are accessible via this webpage. Alternatively, people are welcome to write to the council’s School Modernisation team, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5LG or email [email protected]
