Plans to build a new replacement primary school in Sennybridge will go on display at a public drop-in event next week, the county council has said.
Powys County Council is to build a new 120-pupil school as part of its Transforming Education programme. The project would see the demolition of the current building and the construction of a modern replacement designed to meet Net Zero Carbon standards in operation, align with Welsh Government carbon targets, and achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating for sustainability.
The new building would include an early years facility, a reception classroom, Key Stage 1 and 2 classrooms, a school hall, library, and a community room. Outside, plans feature both soft and hard play areas as well as a new multi-use games area (MUGA).
A pre-application consultation on the project is being submitted to the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority on October 6.
To coincide with this, contractors will hold a public drop-in session on Wednesday, October 8, from 5pm to 7pm at the school to to show parents and members of the public what is being submitted. Parents, residents and other interested parties will be able to view the proposals and raise questions before the formal planning process begins. This session will provide an opportunity to view and discuss the plans for the new school building. The event will be open to the whole school community as well as the public.
Cllr Pete Roberts, Cabinet Member for a Learning Powys, said: "The new building for Sennybridge will provide modern facilities for our pupils and teaching staff and help them to deliver an enjoyable and fulfilling education experience for everyone.
"These drop-in events provide a great opportunity for everyone in the school community and members of the public to view these exciting plans, which will transform education for learners in Powys."
