Midsummer Revels comes to the Llandrindod Lake Amphitheatre on Sunday, June 21, bringing together arts, nature and community for a free day-long celebration on the Summer Solstice weekend.

Now in its second year, the festival invites people of all ages to reconnect with the natural world through creativity, exploration and play, culminating in an open-air performance of Shakespeare’s The Tempest by the Willow Globe Theatre Company.

Set among the trees and lakeside landscape of the Llandrindod Lake Amphitheatre, Midsummer Revels offers a relaxed and welcoming programme designed to encourage people to drop in, stay for as long as they wish, and engage with arts and nature at their own pace.

Throughout the morning and early afternoon, visitors can enjoy hands-on creative workshops and nature-based activities led by organisations including Celf o Gwmpas, Radnorshire Wildlife Trust, Panic Circus and Woodland Gamelan. Families are invited to roam, make, play, create and picnic while rediscovering one of the town’s most loved outdoor spaces.

At 2:30pm, the focus shifts to the amphitheatre itself as audiences gather for an open-air performance of The Tempest. Filled with shipwrecks, storms, spirits and adventure, this family-friendly adaptation brings Shakespeare’s much-loved tale to life against the backdrop of the natural landscape.

The festival grew from a long-standing relationship between Shakespeare Link and Radnorshire Wildlife Trust. Having supported one another’s work over many years, the organisations shared a desire to create an event that celebrates both creativity and the natural environment.

For Shakespeare Link, whose work frequently explores connections between theatre, landscape and place through projects at the Willow Globe site and beyond, the partnership felt like a natural fit.

Festival Project Manager Jemma Thomas said: “Midsummer Revels is really an invitation to slow down and reconnect with nature, with creativity and with one another. We wanted to create a low-pressure day where people could simply turn up, explore, join in if they wish, and enjoy spending time outdoors together.

The Tempest feels like the perfect culmination of the day. It’s a story full of wonder, magic and transformation, and there is something very special about experiencing theatre outdoors, surrounded by the landscape.”

The first Midsummer Revels took place at Pentwyn Farm in 2025 and attracted audiences from across Powys. Following its successful debut, the festival returns this year in a new location, making use of the unique natural setting and amphitheatre at Llandrindod Lake.

Midsummer Revels takes place on Sunday, June 21 from 10:30am–5pm at Llandrindod Lake Amphitheatre.

Festival activities run from 10:30am–2:30pm, followed by an open-air performance of The Tempest from 2:30pm.

The event is completely free to attend thanks to support from Community Foundation Wales, Ashley Family Foundation, Gibbs Trust, and funding raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery and awarded through Postcode Community Trust.
