A well-known poet and TV personality will bring stories from her 40-year career to Brecon this spring.

Pam Ayres is set to appear at Theatr Brycheiniog on Friday, May 8 at 7:30pm, where she will share memories, poems and reflections from her latest book and live show, Doggedly Onward.

The show looks back over decades of her work as a writer, broadcaster and entertainer, offering a mix of humour and personal stories from everyday life.

Ayres has been a familiar face on British television and radio for many years. She has appeared on programmes including Morning Live, This Morning and Would I Lie to You?, as well as making regular appearances on Just a Minute. She has also featured twice on Desert Island Discs, first in 1979 and again in 2018.

As an author, she has published several bestselling poetry collections, with her work appearing in school textbooks around the world. Her autobiography, The Necessary Aptitude, was the UK’s bestselling female autobiography in 2011.

Her latest collection, Doggedly Onward – A Life in Poems, 1970s–2020s, traces her life and career over the decades and forms the centrepiece of the Brecon performance.

Alongside her work for adults, Ayres is also releasing a new children’s book on March 19. I Am Dandy the Dormouse, created with illustrator Nicola O’Byrne, continues her series of animal stories aimed at introducing young readers to wildlife and conservation.

Tickets for the Brecon show are available through Theatr Brycheiniog box office online or by calling 01874 611622.
