Theatr Wildcats is an inclusive theatre company, and the group members use drama, music, movement and dance as a way to get their voices heard.

The group meets every week to create and rehearse original pieces of performance, and has successfully performed at venues across Powys and in Cardiff.

The group recently performed at Theatr Brycheiniog at the “73rd Annual Global Talent Extravaganza,” set in the year 3000, with the show looking into modern society’s obsession with fame, spectacle and “sob stories” as the currency of success. Hosted by the glamorous Sparkle McGlitter and the sarcastic GlitchByte, various sub-groups danced, sang, recited all manner of interesting subjects, and there was even a zombie magician!

Each act was judged by a three-person panel consisting of Harmony Heartstrings, the brutally critical Simone Scowlfield, and the supportive Professor Gigglesworth, whose scoring technique drew lots of applause from the packed audience of family, friends, staff and supporters. Performers also integrated on a screen to well-known advertising campaigns - tongue in cheek - to bring us all back to reality and show what really matters in life.

The extravaganza transformed from a satire of competitive self-promotion into a celebration of quiet heroism, and the show ultimately redefined talent, not as what dazzles an audience, but as what enriches humanity. The show certainly did that!

There were lots of “laugh out loud” moments, with some lines not unlike jokes used in the mode of Monty Python or The Two Ronnies, and the popular music often caused some depth of thought, particularly Imagine and I Want to Break Free.

With the sad closure of the group’s umbrella charity, BCA, there was wonderful news that the Westenders Charity had agreed to host the Wildcats. Congratulations to the performers and all involved in the event, and for borrowings from the splendid event programme. Very, very well done.
