Members of the public are being encouraged to get involved as Race Across the County – Brecknock takes place this coming Sunday (10 May), bringing adventure, teamwork and excitement to communities across the county.

Inspired by the popular television programme Race Across the World, the event will see teams of two racing across Brecknock using public transport, their own initiative, and the goodwill of the public — all while working to a strict budget of just £30.

Residents and visitors are asked to keep an eye out for teams travelling through towns and villages throughout the day. You may see competitors waiting at roadside spots with their thumbs out, hoping for a lift — which is a permitted part of the challenge when done safely and without any prior arrangement.

Support from the public plays a huge role in the spirit of the event, and even a brief lift or words of encouragement can make a big difference to competitors as they race to complete all checkpoints.

Representatives will be present at each checkpoint to confirm teams’ arrival and stamp their race passports.

The finish location will be announced on social media on the day, and the public is warmly invited to attend from 12 noon onwards to track the teams progress and watch the teams arrive.

There will be food available at the finish, with all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Now, a cause supported by the event. Menu options include:

  • Scampi & chips – £6.50
  • Chicken chunks & chips – £6.50
  • Sausage & chips – £6.00

A bar will also be open, making it an ideal spot for families, friends and spectators to gather and soak up the atmosphere as teams race against the clock.

Race Across the County is raising funds for the Brecknock Royal Welsh Feature County Year, with a portion of proceeds donated to Breast Cancer Now. There will be collection buckets at all the checkpoints for the public to donate to the charity.
