An exciting new event inspired by the popular television programme Race Across the World is coming to Brecknock this spring, as the North Committee of the Brecknock Royal Welsh Feature Year prepares to launch Race Across the County on Sunday 10 May 2026.

President Mr Gethin Havard said: “Race Across the County is a brilliant new challenge that we are really looking forward to. It combines adventure, teamwork, and the opportunity for participants to take in the beautiful views of Brecknock while celebrating everything that makes the county so special.”

The event will see teams of two adults race across Brecknock using only public transport, lifts, and their own resourcefulness, with the aim of celebrating local communities, showcasing the county, and raising vital funds for the Brecknock Royal Welsh Feature County Year. A portion of the funds raised will also be donated to Breast Cancer, supporting a well‑recognised and important cause.

Teams will be limited to a maximum budget of £30 of their own money, which can only be used for snacks, bus fares, or lifts. The use of transport by family and friends is strictly prohibited. Each team will carry a race passport that must be signed at a series of designated checkpoints located across the county. A representative will be present at each checkpoint on the day to sign competitors’ passports and confirm their arrival.

To keep the race fair and exciting, checkpoint locations will remain confidential until the morning of the event, when they will be released to the public on the Brecknock RWAS 2026 Facebook page. This will also allow spectators to visit different locations and follow the teams as they race across Brecknock.

The entry fee is £40 per team and will include hi vis vests for participants, and the winning team will receive a £200 cash prize.

The organisers are also seeking local businesses, organisations, and individuals to support the event through sponsorship helping to fund prize money and the organisation of the event.

Anyone interested in entering a team, sponsoring the event is encouraged to get in touch. Teams can request an entry form and full race rules by email: [email protected]
