12-year-old from Rhayader, Livvy, recently won a design competition for the front cover of Rhayader Male Voice Choir’s new CD that is yet to be released.

Rhayader and District Male Voice Choir is in the process or compiling a CD. In order to bring in the spirit of community they held a competition encouraging young artists to help design the front cover. The competition also asked for a suitable title.

The choir was rewarded with some wonderful designs which made judging extremely difficult. The winning entry for both the cover image and amazing title were from Livvy. Livvy, from Rhayader is a pupil at Ysgol Uwchradd Llanidloes High School. She has close historical links to the choir. Her Great Grandad sang in the bass section for many years along with other members of her family. Her grandmother, in particular, is very proud to keep up the tradition of support for the choir.

A spokesperson from Rhayader and District Male Voice Choir said: “Livvy’s design not only captured the musical spirit of Mid-Wales pictorially but encompassed the melodic sounds of the hills. Her title is Harmony in the Hills.”

Livvy received a certificate and book token from choir secretary Graham.

Other certificates and prizes were awarded to Sofia from Llanyre, Gethin from Llanddewi and Elsie from Llanbister Road.

The new CD features Rhayader & District Male Voice Choir with guest soloists Holly Richards , sisters Angarad Hyde and Cerys Gough, harpists Isla Corbett and Linda Pearce, guitarist and choir member Alfie Bowman and drummer and choir member Philip Gayther. The recording took place at Giant Wafer Recording Studios, Llanbadarn Fynydd with the help of Sound Engineer Richard.
