The charity Crimestoppers has today launched a new, three-week campaign to raise awareness of rural crime across Wales and encourage people to share information anonymously.
The campaign is timed to coincide with the Royal Welsh Show, one of the country’s most significant agricultural events, ensuring maximum engagement with rural communities at a critical time of year. As part of the campaign, Crimestoppers will be attending the Royal Welsh Show with a 9ft trailer, offering resources and information to visitors about reporting rural crime.
Rural crime - including livestock theft, equipment damage, and illegal hunting - continues to affect farming communities across Wales, causing significant financial loss and emotional distress. These offences threaten livelihoods and undermine confidence in some of Wales’s most isolated and remote areas.
This campaign urges everyone in Wales to help protect rural communities by sharing what they know about rural crime with Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously. Useful information includes:
• The exact location, date, and time of any suspicious activity
• Details of vehicles or equipment involved, such as make, model, or registration
• Descriptions of people seen committing offences
• Any patterns of behaviour or repeat incidents
• Information about where stolen goods or equipment may be stored
Hayley Fry, Wales Regional Manager for Crimestoppers, said: “Rural crime is not a victimless offence. It can devastate families, businesses, and entire communities. By speaking up, you can help us protect those who work so hard to feed the nation and care for our countryside.
“We understand that it can be difficult to come forward, but by contacting Crimestoppers, you remain 100% anonymous. We never ask for your name and we cannot trace your call or online form. Your information could make a real difference in keeping rural Wales safe.”
To report rural crime 100% anonymously, visit the charity’s website Crimestoppers-uk.org and fill in a secure anonymous online form, or call their 24/7 UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111, 365 days of the year. In an emergency, always call 999.
Please note: Computer IP addresses are never traced and no-one will ever know you contacted Crimestoppers. For telephone calls, there is no caller line display, no 1471 facility and the charity has never traced a call.
