Free parking will be on offer at Powys County Council’s pay and display car parks on two different Saturdays during the run-up to Christmas.

The festive initiative, which follows previous successful free parking schemes, will allow Christmas shoppers to park for free on Saturday, December 15 and Saturday, December 22 between 10am and 6pm.

Normally it would cost drivers between 70p and £6.30 to stop in a Powys Council car park with prices depending on the length of stay, time and the size of the vehicle.

Councillor Phyl Davies, the cabinet member for highways, said: “I’m delighted to confirm that the council’s free car parking initiative will run for two key shopping days in the run-up to Christmas.

“We know that the scheme will be welcomed by shoppers and businesses alike and will provide a timely boost to the county’s economy in the run-up to the busiest shopping period of the year.

“The county’s economy is vital to everyone and the festive period can make a real difference to countless businesses, so any help to increase spending has to be worthwhile.”

The free parking will apply to all of Powys Council’s off-street car parks, however it will not alter existing on-street parking restrictions.

Free parking in short stay car parks, which normally costs up to £1.50, will only be applicable for a maximum of two hours on both Saturdays.
