Gwernyfed High School is delighted to celebrate the achievements of its Year 13 pupils as they receive their A-Level and vocational qualification results.

This year's outcomes reflect the hard work, resilience and determination of their pupils, supported by dedicated staff, families and their strong partnership through the Chweched Powys Sixth Form collaboration.

The Class of 2026 has much to celebrate, with 100% of pupils achieving the Level 3 threshold by gaining two or more A Levels at grades A*-E. In addition, more than 79% of pupils secured two or more A*-C grades, while 91.67% achieved three or more A*-E qualifications.

This year's results are particularly noteworthy for the breadth of exciting destinations and progression routes secured by pupils. Students have successfully gained places on highly competitive courses including Biology at the University of Oxford, Mathematics at Cardiff University, Physiotherapy at the University of Gloucestershire, Veterinary Science at Aberystwyth University, Business Management at Swansea University, and Welsh Studies, alongside courses in Computer Science, Criminology, and a range of other disciplines.

Beyond higher education, pupils have also secured places at Hereford College of Arts, progressed into employment opportunities, and embarked upon RAF military careers, demonstrating the diverse aspirations and ambitions of the year group.

These destinations highlight the breadth of talent within the cohort and reflect the commitment, resilience and determination shown by pupils throughout their time at Gwernyfed High School.

The school is especially proud of pupils who have balanced academic studies with sporting, cultural and community commitments, and demonstrated exceptional perseverance to achieve their goals. Their success reinforces the message that there is no single route to achievement, with pupils progressing to a wide range of universities, careers, employment pathways and further training opportunities.

Executive Headteacher, Kirsty Retallick, said: "We are incredibly proud of every member of our Year 13 cohort. Today is about celebrating individual successes and recognising that each student's journey is unique.

“From securing places at some of the country's most prestigious universities to progressing into healthcare, creative industries, STEM subjects, the armed forces and a range of professional careers, these young people have demonstrated ambition, resilience and determination. Their achievements are a reflection of their hard work and commitment throughout their time with us."

Interim Headteacher, Sian Jenkins, added: "These results reflect not only academic achievement but also the character, resilience and determination of our young people. We are delighted to see pupils progressing to destinations including Oxford, Cardiff, Gloucester, Aberystwyth, Swansea, Hereford College of Arts and RAF careers.

“Each student's success story is different, and together they demonstrate the strength of our school community and the opportunities available through the Chweched Powys partnership. We are immensely proud of all they have achieved and look forward to seeing what they accomplish in the future.
