Hay Camera Club has claimed a victory over photographers from the other side of the world after beating a New Zealand club in an annual competition.

The club came out on top against the Marlborough Camera Club, based on New Zealand’s South Island, winning the online contest by 348 points to 325.

The annual competition, judged independently, saw photographers from both clubs challenged to produce images on the theme of ‘minimalism’ – a subject which tested the creativity of members on both sides.

Thanks to online technology, photographers were able to take part from their own homes, while the judge assessed the entries remotely from Northern Ireland, making it a truly international event.

One of Hay Camera Club’s top-scoring images was taken by member David Bull, who said the competition reflected the strong friendship between the two clubs.

“We value our friendship across the world with Marlborough and greatly enjoy this competition,” he said.

Hay Camera Club meets at Cusop Hall near Hay and welcomes new members interested in photography.
