A Hay-on-Wye guitar shop has been given a television makeover after featuring in the latest series of BBC One’s Interior Design Masters.
Wye Fret, based on Castle Street, appeared in an episode broadcast on Tuesday, May 26, as part of the competition hosted by Alan Carr and judge Michelle Ogundehin.
The programme sees 10 amateur interior designers compete for a commercial design contract, taking on weekly challenges to transform a range of spaces including shops, restaurants, salons and apartments.
For the Hay-on-Wye episode, designers Emmely and Duran were tasked with redesigning the independent guitar store.
Oil and Oak, a gift shop selling products made by local artists and makers, also on Castle Street, received a makeover from contestants Lia and Sophie.
Ahead of the broadcast, the shop team at Wye Fret said they kept the project under wraps, later sharing their excitement on social media.
“We’ve kept this a secret for so long but we are super excited to announce that Wye Fret will be featured on Interior Design Masters 2026,” the team said.
“The amazing Alan Carr and his team of extremely talented designers came and gave us the makeover we could only dream of.”
Shop owner Chris Williams said the redesign had exceeded expectations.
“Very rarely I am ever lost for words, but I genuinely can’t thank these two incredibly talented girls enough for pouring their heart and soul into creating my dream guitar shop,” he said. “They did everything I asked for and more.”
Williams opened Wye Fret in 2021, becoming the UK’s youngest guitar shop owner at the time.
The episode also opened with a comedic sketch featuring Alan Carr at the town’s Gay-on-Wye bookshop.
The programme is currently in its seventh series and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer, including this week’s episode.
