Holy Trinity Church in Llandrindod Wells has been forced to close its building after what church leaders describe as ongoing health and safety concerns.

The decision means the church is temporarily unable to hold any services or gatherings on site.

In a message shared with parishioners and the wider community on the Holy Trinity Mission Hub Facebook page, Rev Pete Letson said the closure had not been taken lightly.

“As many of you are becoming aware, we have sadly had to take the decision to close our church building at Holy Trinity due to ongoing health and safety concerns,” he said.

“This is not a decision that has been taken lightly as we know how well-used and how important our space is to so many of not only our church family but our wider community as well.”

Rev Pete said that work was being done to try and resolve the issues.

“We are working hard with both statutory and church bodies to try and resolve these issues, but we sadly do not have a timeframe for how long this closure may take,” he said.

“We will try our best to keep everyone informed of our progress.”

Church leaders have confirmed that Sunday worship will now take place at Ysgol Trefonnen, at the usual time of 10:45am, with Sunday School also continuing as normal.

In a further update, the church said it was “incredibly grateful” to the school for providing a temporary home, adding that it was pleased to be able to continue gathering as a congregation despite the disruption.

Arrangements are also being made to find a home for the church’s midweek services, with details hoped to be confirmed and shared with the congregation shortly.

With regard to the vacant church building, officials have stressed that no one should attempt to enter Holy Trinity without prior permission while the safety issues are addressed.

“If anyone wishes to access the church building for any reason, you must first contact Rev Pete before trying to access the building,” the statement said.

He can be contacted either by calling 01597 502494 or by emailing [email protected]

If anyone has any further questions, they can contact the reverend, or alternatively the church administrator Clare by calling 07495 009741 or by emailing [email protected]

The message to the congregation acknowledged the uncertainty and disruption caused, offering an apology to those affected.

“We sincerely apologise to all those affected by this sudden closure and for any distress or worry we know it must cause,” it said.

“Please be assured of our continued prayer and love for our community and, if you feel able, please also pray for us as a church during this difficult time. Whilst our building may be closed, our church – the people – is very much still alive and active. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

Holy Trinity Church in opened in 1871 and was designed by architect Thomas Nicholson, built at a time when the town was expanding rapidly.
