Two talented young members of Libanus YFC are set to represent Wales on the national stage after an outstanding victory in the Wales YFC Badminton Doubles Competition.

Megan Rees-Jones, a pupil at Llangors Church in Wales Primary School, and Cerys Jones from Cradoc Primary School, triumphed at the recent Wales YFC Sports Day held in Lampeter on Sunday, June 29. The pair, both just 11 years old, saw off strong competition from across the country to take the top spot - and in doing so, booked their place at the National YFC Sports Day finals.

Having already won a tough competition within Brecknock YFC, Megan and Cerys went into the Lampeter event representing their county, rising to the occasion in style. Undefeated throughout the tournament, the duo impressed with their skill and teamwork.

Pembrokeshire finished runners-up, and as the top two teams, both pairs will now travel to Stratford on Sunday, July 6 to compete for Wales at the national finals.

As well as being active members of Libanus YFC, both Megan and Cerys train with Llangorse Badminton Club, where they’ve developed their game with the help of coaches Mike Scruby and Gordon Godfrey. The girls were keen to thank their coaches and fellow club members for their support and encouragement.

Special recognition also goes to Megan’s twin siblings, Griff and Grace, fellow members of Libanus YFC, who have played a key role as regular sparring partners and enthusiastic supporters.

A spokesperson for Libanus YFC said: “Megan and Cerys are not only flying the flag for their county and club but doing so with a great sense of sportsmanship, commitment, and pride.

“Everyone at Libanus YFC is cheering them on as they prepare to represent Wales at the National YFC Sports Day.

“Da iawn, girls - we’re all behind you!”
