Peace activists from across Wales gathered in Mid Wales outside the Sennybridge Military Training Area ranges gate on the B4520 on Monday, 21 September, to mark International Day of Peace.

Many peace groups were represented, including Cor Gorbaith, CND Cymru, Wales Christians ForPalestine, Palestine support groups from Builth Wells and Brecon, Lakenheath Alliance for peace, Aberystwyth for peace and Justice, Brecon & Radnor Green Party, and Cardiff stop the war.

There were also representatives of the Epynt Families who were cleared from the land in 1940 to make way for the military and who have never been allowed to return. 

Those there observed a minute’s silence, remembering all victims of war, with a special focus on those suffering in Gaza and Palestine.

The vigil also showed those in attendance standing alongside communities displaced by war and military occupation across the world, as well as honoring the history of Mynydd Epynt, which was cleared of its local community in 1940 for military use, and resisting the continuous use of Welsh land for warfare training.

They encouraged passing traffic on the B4520 to honk their horns in solidarity and held a peace picnic.

Leigh Evans, prominent peace campaigner and retired Gaza emergency nurse, said: "This protest and peace demonstration is of critical importance. The Epynt ranges expose the reality of Westminster’s control, serving as a stark reminder of colonialism in Wales. While the UK Government portrays SENTA strictly as an MoD training facility, it is being utilised to benefit global weapons suppliers and the Zionist Israeli state. Wales is a nation built on a heritage of peace (heddwch), yet the operations at this site tie our country directly to ongoing genocides and increasing militarisation in Cymru.”

Heather Huntley, Coordinator of Mid Wales Against Arms, said: "This very successful gathering in the heart of Wales was an open invitation to anyone who shares a vision of a peaceful, demilitarised future to stand in absolute solidarity with the victims of conflict worldwide. “
