Mid Wales Freemasons have donated £500 to Mid Powys Youth Theatre (MPYT) in Llandrindod Wells to support the company’s upcoming production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.
The donation includes £250 from the Loyal Wye Lodge, which meets in Builth Wells, and £250 from the Ancient and Accepted Rite of Freemasons, whose Maesyfed Chapter meets at Llandrindod Wells Masonic Hall. Pictured are David Churm from Loyal Wye Lodge presenting the cheque to MPYT Production Director Ralph Bolland, alongside cast member Ellis Holt.
MPYT offers young creatives aged 10 to 29, from across the country, opportunities to explore the performing arts. The theatre group encourages participants to be curious, take risks, and develop both on-stage and off-stage skills, from acting and stagecraft to sound, lighting, costume, projection mapping, photography, marketing, and music technology.
Artistic Director Ralph Bolland is delighted to be scaling up MPYT operations for the first time since 2018: “We’ve been busy since Covid with some brilliant little shows that delighted audiences and participants alike, but there’s no denying the place that MPYT at Wyeside holds in the hearts of our community.”
Ralph says he is particularly pleased with the Professional Development opportunities MPYT has created for a handful of local, young artists. These ‘emergent professionals’, some ex-MPYTers among them, form a core part of the production team.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time is a bold, bright, beautiful spin on a contemporary classic, adapted from Mark Haddon’s beloved novel by acclaimed dramatist Simon Stephens, taking place from 5–8 November at Wyeside Arts Centre, Builth Wells. The production follows neurodivergent teenager Christopher as he navigates a murder mystery and the challenges of a world that often doesn’t make sense.
Tickets are available from the Wyeside Arts Centre Box Office.
