AN elderly couple who are self-isolating had a delivery of milk and eggs stolen from their doorstep this morning.
Christine and Brian Ellams, of Parc Tarell in Brecon, who have used a milkman for several years, woke to find their doorstep empty.
The couple cannot currently leave their home and shop for themselves. Those over 70 have been told to remain in their own homes during the coronavirus pandemic. Mrs Ellams said: “My husband got up and went to the door at 7 o’clock this morning and saw that the empty had gone, but there was nothing on the doorstep.
“We thought maybe there had been a mistake so we rang up the milkman, but he explained that this seems to be happening quite a bit on Parc Tarell. It’s never happened to us before.”
Mr and Mrs Ellams, who are both over 70 and have lived in Parc Tarell for over three years, are not the only victims of this cruel theft.
Mrs Ellams, said: “It’s horrible- I’ve since heard that another neighbour has had his milk and juice stolen as well. Apparently there’s been a spate of them on one of the estates at the top of town too.
“On this estate we only have deliveries three times a week. They must have some kind of knowledge of when he delivers or just take the opportunity.”
The couple, who are currently self-isolating, have had their stolen milk replaced by their milkman, and admit that they may have to take precautionary measures in the future.
Mrs Ellams said: “We’ve got a secure outdoor cupboard, so we might have to put it in there with a padlock, and get CCTV as well.
“Its awful for the milkman, because he’s kindly replaced it for us. He’s doing a great trade and people are stealing his money- it’s terrible.”
