Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team has endured a busy month of June.

On Friday, 26 June, the team helped assist First Responders at Bike Park Wales with a stretcher carry to an awaiting ambulance for a rider who had suffered a leg injury.

That was followed by an afternoon request to assist with a knee injury on the Four Wateralls Trail. After assessment by the team’s Remote Rescue Medics they returned the casualty to their car for onward journey to hospital.

The following day, on Saturday, 27 June, the team were requested to assist in a multi agency incident in the waterfalls area recovering a person who had entered the water. Sadly, after an extensive resuscitation, the operation was not successful.

A spokesperson for Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team said: “We extend our deepest condolences to all family and friends. Whilst this was ongoing we also assisted a family group on the trail, one of whom had suffered dizziness. After assessment by Remote Rescue Medics, they were able to be walked to safety.”

The team worked jointly with Dyfed-Powys Police, Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust (WAST), Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, and Wales Air Ambulance.

“We deployed some team members from our Cardiff 3 Peaks Event and we’re grateful to Western Beacons Mountain Rescue Team and Brecon Mountain Rescue Team who were able to assist with a few members,” said a spokesperson for the team.

Whilst this was ongoing the team members also assisted a family group on the trail, one of whom had suffered dizziness. After assessment by Remote Rescue Medics, they were able to be walked to safety.

On Monday, 29 June, the team visited Sgwd yr Eira waterfall in the evening for a walker who had slipped and broken their wrist in the fall.

A spokesperson for the team said: “Whilst extricating to ambulance transport we had a request from WAST to investigate a report of a person with breathing difficulties somewhere on the trail. With hardly any info to go with, we re-deployed and carried out searches of the whole trail and waterfall sites but found nothing.

“After close consideration with WAST Control Room, as the sun was setting we agreed to stand down and return to base.

“As ever, we continue to be grateful to all our family, friends and colleagues for all their support while we respond to all our incidents.”
