THE sale of two properties by Powys County Council could potentially net the authority £390,000 .
On August 19, under delegated powers, the council’s cabinet member for a connected Powys, Cllr Jake Berriman gave the go ahead to “dispose” of Maes-y-Sarn, a three-bedroom cottage at Sarn near Newtown.
The report into the decision is being kept confidential – but the minutes show that Cllr Berriman is passing on delegated authority to Gwilym Davies the council’s head of planning, property, and public protection to proceed with the sale.
The report says that Mr Davies is authorised to “accept the best offer submitted for this surplus cottage, following an appropriate period of marketing and negotiation, where that offer is in excess of the asking price after an appropriate period of marketing”.
On the council’s website, the property has a price guide of £240,000.
Maes-y-Sarn also comes with two acres of land, and a number of outbuildings.
This decision comes into force on August 30.
Similarly, the council have published a notice of its intention to “dispose” of a building in Welshpool town centre.
On Friday, August 26, Cllr Berriman is expected to go ahead with the “disposal” of 42 Broad Street, which is opposite Welshpool Town Hall.
Again, the report is being kept confidential, but the decision is subject to a possible “call in” for scrutiny by councillors and will not come into force for “five clear days” following the decision.
Taking into account the August bank holiday, this means that the decision should come into force on Monday, September 5.
On the council’s website the property is described as a “commercial office accommodation” which offers “income potential and opportunities” for redevelopment.
The building has four storeys and had a guide price of £150,000.
