Pontfaen YFC members had a fantastic and action-packed time representing the club at this year’s Royal Welsh Show, with success across a range of competitions and activities.
On Monday, the Scrapbook team of Siân Healey, Megan Chowdhuri and Henry Davies impressed the judges and secured 3rd place. In Wool Handling, Dominie Chetwynd performed strongly, earning 4th place.
In the Solo Singing competition with the theme of Transport, Siân Healey gave a stunning performance of Defying Gravity, which won her a well-deserved 2nd place.
In the first round of the 7s Rugby, William Prosser, Joel Price and Gareth Price teamed up with members from Sennybridge and Trecastle YFC. The team put in outstanding performances, winning against both Pembrokeshire and Glamorgan and securing a place in the final on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Josh Morgan took part in the ever-popular Sheep Shearing competition, showcasing his skills among strong competitors.
The energetic Dance Team of Cari Bufton, Celyn Owens, Maddie Witcomb, Ruth Thompson, Darcy Davies, Ruby White and Ava-Rose Davison entertained crowds with an exciting African dance performance, earning high praise.

On Wednesday, In the Bluefaced Leicester sheep judging, sisters Rhian and Rose Lewis proudly represented the club in the Under 28 and Under 18 categories. Rhian achieved an outstanding score of 100/100 in one ring, a fitting way to finish her judging career for Brecknock. A former national-winning stock judger, Rhian has been a valued asset to the club.
Ruby and Will Herdman pulled for Trecastle YFC in the Junior Tug of War section and came away as winners. Meanwhile, Sophie Lewis, Rose Lewis, Chloe Williams and Dominie Chetwynd trained and competed with the Trecastle YFC Ladies team, the county went on to win the overall Tug of War competition.
In the 7s Rugby final, the boys faced a tough match against Eryri, who ultimately claimed victory. The Junior Tug of War team competed in the Open Section and gave a strong performance, finishing in 3rd place, with Hay-on-Wye taking first and second.

On the final day, Ruth Lewis earned 3rd place in the Under 28 Dairy Judging competition, another great result.
The club is proud to have contributed to Brecknock’s overall win in the week of competitions.
