Powys County Council is urging food and drink hospitality businesses to apply for a new rate relief scheme that could reduce their business rates bills for the current financial year.

The Business Rates Food and Drink Hospitality Rates Relief scheme for 2026/27 offers eligible businesses a 15 per cent discount on their rates. The Welsh Government has provided £197,000 in funding for the scheme, which could benefit up to 200 businesses across the county.

The relief applies to businesses operating as pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, or live music venues. The rate relief scheme is available until 31 March 2027. Businesses who meet the eligibility criteria must apply to receive the rate relief.

The scheme includes a cap on total relief across all properties of £110,000.

Jane Thomas, Powys County Council’s Director for Corporate Services, said: “It continues to be a difficult time for businesses in the food and drink hospitality sector. This scheme supports businesses in these sectors so I would urge those who are eligible for this discount to apply for it as soon as possible.”
