THE Queen's Baton Relay will arrive in Powys this weekend when it will be carried by Kirsty Wade as it continues its journey to the 2014 Commonwealth Games. The three times Commonwealth Games gold medalist and former Brecon Athletics Club member, will help carry the baton on a lap of the Lake in her hometown of Llandrindod Wells. Presteigne's reigning Commonwealth Games lawn bowls champion Robert Weale, table tennis ace Naomi Owen and bowls medalist Betty Morgan, both of Llandrindod, will also carry the baton on it way around the lake. Young ambassadors Matthew Leonard and Stephen Loat, both students at Llandrindod High School, will accompany them. The baton arrives in Wales on Saturday, May 24 on its journey around the Commonwealth to this July's Games in Glasgow, Scotland. The baton is due to arrive at Llandrindod Lake at around 5.15pm on Sunday, May 25. From 2.30pm on Sunday a host of activities are planned at the Lake to celebrate the occasion. Free sport taster activities will take place on the common next to the town's lake between 2.30pm-5pm. Tennis, badminton, bowls, athletics, gymnastics and cycling are just some of the activities that will be held, which will be suitable for all ages. As well as the sporting activities, there will be a silver band, the Brecon Samba Band as well as food, a bouncy castle and community stalls. There will also be opportunities to have a photo taken on the common following the baton's lap around the lake. Parking is available at town centre car parks with some spaces at County Hall and the medical surgery and job centre car parks on Spa Road.
