NEW figures have shown that 160 assaults have taken place in Powys schools so far this year.
But information on how many of these incidents have been reported to Dyfed-Powys Police is not known.
At Powys council's learning and skills scrutiny committee councillors and independent members who are school governors discussed school exclusion numbers.
This is an area that Estyn said in its recent inspection report was “too high” over the past four years in Powys.
So far this financial year, the unverified number of a form of exclusions is 463 which compares to 491 in 2017/18 and 313 in 2016/17.
Out of the 463 exclusion 160 have been for assault/ violence against a pupil or member of staff.
A breakdown of the reasons for exclusions was also given to the committee.
Most exclusions, 107, were for disruptive behaviour and for verbal abuse against an adult, 102 but just 13 exclusions for verbal abuse against a fellow pupil. Of the exclusions related to violence 88 were for assault/violence against another pupil or student with 72 for violence against a member of staff.
There were 37 exclusions for substance misuse; 20 for damage to property; four for bullying while there were five exclusions for racial harassment and four for sexual misconduct. 11 exclusions were recorded under "other".
