A ROW has broken out after a patients' watchdog gave its blessing to the transfer of a stroke unit between two Breconshire Hospitals.

The League of Friends of Bronllys Hospital claims the Brecknock and Radnor Community Health Council (CHC) had failed to uphold pre-conditions it placed earlier this year on the transfer of the stroke rehabilitation unit from Bronllys to Brecon's War Memorial Hospital.

At its most recent meeting the CHC approved the transfer, first proposed in September 2012, and agreed Powys teaching Health Board was meeting the caveats the CHC had placed on the transfer of the unit in January this year.

But the League of Friends of Bronllys Hospital, which had been opposed to the transfer since it was first proposed, claims the health board is failing to meet those requirements and accuses the CHC of failing to ensure its demands were met.

The CHC said it had sought assurances over the quality of care once the unit has transferred and that it would continue to monitor the health board's implementation of the caveats.

Powys teaching Health Board has said care in Brecon will be 'as good or better' than that currently provided in Bronllys.
