Fine weather, outstanding entries and a packed programme of entertainment combined to make the 2026 Sennybridge Show a weekend to remember. From livestock and horses to horticulture, domestic, crafts, vintage machinery and dogs, there was something for everyone as competitors, exhibitors, families and visitors came together to enjoy this much-loved annual show.

The standard of entries across the various sections was exceptionally high, providing plenty for visitors to see and admire, while the many trade stands, children's activities and funfair added to the enjoyment, ensuring there was something for everyone. With a wonderful atmosphere throughout the weekend, the show once again celebrated the very best of local agriculture and community spirit.

The day began with the dulcet tones of Chris Davies in the commentary box, providing updates and information throughout the morning from the Main Ring.

The President of the Show for 2026 was Elfed Williams and his daughter, Sam. Elfed has been a staunch supporter of the Show for many years and has managed the cattle section for a considerable period. In recognition of his involvement, there was an exceptionally strong turnout of cattle this year. One of the highlights of the Main Ring was the parade of prize-winning cattle, sheep and horses, with Elfed himself providing commentary as the champions made their way around the ring.

Following the parade, Show Chairman Ian Harris made a presentation to Gethin Havard, recognising the achievement of the Brecknock RWAS Feature County, an initiative which brought the county and wider community together.

There was plenty of entertainment throughout the day, including a visit from Mighty Smith, the 5th World's Strongest Man, who delighted the crowd with demonstrations of strength and encouraged members of the audience to get involved. The Defynnog Vintage Society provided an impressive display of vintage tractors, with a steam engine also making an appearance. Visitors were also treated to a demonstration of Land Rovers pulling on a winch, adding another spectacle to an already busy programme.

Here are some of the results for the overall winners from the various sections throughout the day.

The horse section was well supported, with local exhibitors joined by competitors who had travelled considerable distances to take part. Judges commented on the superb quality of the horses throughout the day.

The Supreme Champion competition was judged by former Show Horse Secretary Sam Workham. The Supreme Champion was Gemma Morris with Bordervalley Cover Girl (Section A), while the Reserve Champion was awarded to Isabella Morgan with Goldengrove Sunrise (Working Hunter Pony).

There was a tremendous display of sheep, with more than 450 sheep entered and the judges facing fierce competition across the various classes. A new class for South Wales Mountain sheep was introduced this year, while the largest class saw 23 Brecknock Hill Cheviots competing in the Ewe Lamb class. It was an impressive sight for visitors.

The overall Supreme Champion was a Brecknock Hill Cheviot ewe, awarded to Christie Joseph, with the Reserve Champion going to Shauna Evans with a Blue Texel ewe. The Young Handler Classers also attracted strong entries. The winners of the four separate classes were Gwion Thomas, Fflur Phillips, Betsan Jones and Teleri Mazurczak. It was a pleasure to see the next generation of the agricultural industry demonstrating their skills and enthusiasm.

The cattle section was one of the largest seen at the Show for many years, with nearly 30 cattle exhibited. The Champion was awarded to the President, B.E. Williams of Castle Farm, with Annie Walters taking the Reserve Champion award.

The Domestic & Handicraft tent once again proved a major attraction, with an exceptionally high standard of entries this year. A remarkable 1,037 entries were received, representing 139 individuals across 109 different classes. There was fabulous support from Ysgol Pontsenni, the nursery/Meithrin Group and the Ti a Fi Group, alongside the many open classes.

Visitors entering the marquee were treated to a feast for the eyes, with beautifully presented handicrafts and exhibits, together with the delicious aromas coming from the cookery and preserve classes. The judges were full of praise for both the quality of the entries and the presentation of the exhibits.

A new class was introduced this year to design the cover of the Sennybridge Show 2027 schedule. There was a good number of entries, with Rhianwen Jones taking the winning prize.

The Horticulture section provided an impressive array of flowers, fruit and vegetables. Despite the drought conditions experienced over the summer, exhibitors produced a wonderful selection of high-quality produce which was enjoyed by visitors.

The Fun Dog Ring was busier than ever and proved to be a great success, with a record 146 entries making it the largest Fun Dog Ring yet. The Best in Show award went to Moss, a Labrador owned by Linda Statts of Neath.

There was a great display in the Farm Produce and Wool section, with a variety of classes from a small bale of hay to the best scarecrow.

Following a busy day of competition and entertainment, attention turned to the popular Speed Shear in the evening. The marquee was packed as spectators gathered to enjoy the spectacle and cheer on the competitors. The event was followed by live music from The Grape Escape, who got the evening dance underway and provided the perfect finale to a memorable Show Day.

The celebrations continued the following evening with the President's Musical Extravaganza, showcasing an abundance of local talent.

Following the success of the concert at Plough Chapel in May, Brecknock YFC returned by popular demand to perform songs from favourite musicals. They were joined by the Brecknock RWAS Feature County choir, Côr Brycheiniog, creating another memorable evening of music and entertainment.

The evening was expertly led by compere Edwin Roderick, with YFC members also helping to bring the event together.
