Glanusk Country Store, situated in Sennybridge, has been shortlisted to win a Countryside Alliance Award in the Rural Enterprise category.
The Awards are the Countryside Alliance’s annual celebration of British food & farming, enterprise and heritage through small hard-working businesses.
The awards are now in their nineteenth year and have become the definitive rural business award to win. They are set apart from other award schemes because they are driven by public nomination, offering customers the chance to say why their favourite businesses are worthy of national acclaim.
Glanusk Country Store began trading in 2017 situated in Sennybridge within the Old Railway Station Masters House, in the heart of the Brecon Beacons serving Sennybridge and many local villages as well as farming communities and others in remote rural locations.
Set up as a partnership business employing local staff, Glanusk Country Store started out supplying PPE, workwear, equine feed, countryside clothing and equipment and footwear, the gun room was established in 2018 within the shop, reconstructed to house the gun room and an RFD obtained.
Over the last 7/8 years the store has grown and now offer a huge range of guns and ammunition, shooting clothing and accessories as well as other equine and countryside wear brands. They research, try and test their wares to ensure they can deliver great service and aim to supply goods for all budgets and requirements.
Feed sales have also expanded over time for Glanusk, and the store can now offer equine, poultry and ruminant feed.
A gift section within the shop enables customers to purchase birthday presents, Christmas gifts and curiosities. The store supports local crafts as well as purchasing from their main suppliers.
“We offer vouchers, prizes and clothing sponsorship. In a rural small town with many surrounding communities suffering the loss of local shops and businesses, we endeavour to work hard and remain strong and are ever grateful for all the support in past years and in present times.”
Countryside Alliance Awards Director Sarah Lee commented: “We have been overwhelmed by nominations this year. The secret to the Rural Oscars’ popularity is that they honour the people involved in these businesses and not just their produce or services.
“They exist to sing the praises of those who work hard to keep our communities and rural economy ticking, but don’t seek the spotlight. These awards provide a cause for celebration in a time of great uncertainty in the countryside. Our local produce is second to none and there are many community heroes and businesses worthy of national recognition.”
Rebecca from Glanusk Country Store said: “As an independent small rural business we would be nothing without the support of our community or without the countryside sports ourselves and surrounding communities enjoy.
“We strive to ensure great value and support for our customers whilst providing thorough service, information and advice that is individual to our customers’ needs, with aftercare and support. We are honored and grateful to be nominated for the award and wish all nominees the best of luck within the awards and business.”
Winners will be chosen via a public vote in January and announced at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay on Tuesday 9 June 2026. The winners of the Welsh final will go on to represent Wales at the House of Lords in the national champions’ reception in July.
