Llanelwedd Church in Wales Primary School has concluded their latest term on a high with shows, sports and success.
Pupils and staff have enjoyed an action-packed end to the academic year, with a range of exciting events that showcased the talent, enthusiasm and team spirit of the whole school.
At the end of June, all the year groups took to the stage at the Wyeside to perform The Wizard of Oz with every child from Reception through to Year 6 taking part, donning colourful costumes, singing lively songs and marching proudly down the yellow brick road. With impressive solos and enthusiastic dancing, the show was a real highlight of the term. Headteacher Mr Shearman, who was also responsible for directing the performance, praised the pupils for their energy, confidence and teamwork.
Also in June, the school held its annual Sports Week, packed with fun challenges. Every pupil took part in a wide range of activities, including a bike course set up on the playing field, swimming sessions, and tennis. A highlight was a visit from the Cambrian Archers, who introduced the children to archery, and Ysgol Calon Cymru’s young sports leaders led an exciting day of games and challenges on the Wednesday. Sports Day was held the following day with all house teams giving it their all – but it was Wye house who took home the trophy this year in a close contest.
Adding to the sporting achievements, the school’s Year 6 boys’ cricket team travelled to Cardiff to compete in the South East Wales Cricket Finals. After successfully winning all their group games, the team finished in an impressive fourth place. The school is incredibly proud of their performance and sportsmanship.
With such a busy and successful term behind them, pupils and staff alike are now ready for a well-earned summer break.
