A celebration of creativity and wellbeing will take place in Brecon next month as South Powys Mind hosts its annual Art in Mind Exhibition at St Mary’s Church.
The free exhibition will run from June 10-12, opening daily from 9:30am to 12:30pm, with extended opening until 2:30pm on the Friday. The event will run alongside St Mary’s Church community café, with donations to South Powys Mind welcomed.
The exhibition will showcase artwork created by members of Art in Mind, a weekly creative wellbeing group run by South Powys Mind every Tuesday from 1pm to 4pm at the charity’s Wellbeing Centre on Free Street in Brecon.
Led by volunteer artist and teacher Veronica Gibson, the sessions provide a calm and supportive environment where participants are encouraged to explore creativity in a relaxed and judgement-free setting.
Members work on a wide variety of creative projects using different materials, techniques and mediums, with art books and resources available for inspiration. Participants are also encouraged to bring along their own ideas and artwork.
This year’s exhibition will also feature a special tribute to former member Chee Ai, who died earlier this year. Organisers said she was a valued and much-loved member of the group, with Art in Mind bringing her friendship, joy and connection. Her artwork will be displayed as part of the exhibition in celebration of her creativity and the lasting impact she had on the group.
Marie Davies, CEO at South Powys Mind, said: “Art in Mind is about much more than creating artwork, it’s about connection, confidence, expression and providing a welcoming space where people can simply come as they are. We’re incredibly proud of the supportive community that has grown through the group and are delighted to share the creativity and talent of members through this exhibition.”
