TEENAGERS can practice their driving skills even before they are 17 at a free driving course.
The Teen Drive course, organised by Powys County Council’s road safety unit, allows youngsters aged 14 to 17 to drive a dual-controlled car in a safe, off-road environment.
The courses are free for 14 to 17-year-olds who live or study in Powys, due to funding from the Welsh Government.
Courses include workshops with road safety officers, first aid trainers and approved driving instructors. Safety issues including the use of drink, drugs and mobile phones are covered as well as lifesaving skills.
Councillor John Brunt, the council’s cabinet member for road safety, said: "As one of our most vulnerable road users, it is important that we provide our young drivers with the skills to make them safer on our roads.
"These courses will instil safe driving practices to those who attend and provide valuable skills and education before they formally start learning to drive."
A course is being held at County Hall, Llandrindod Wells on Saturday, February 13 from 9.30am - 12.30pm or 1.30pm - 4.30pm. A course will also take place at Theatr Clera, Welshpool, between the same times, on Monday, February 15.
Places are limited so must be booked in advance. To book or for further informatio contact [email protected] or ring 01597 826979.
