A teenager from Llanwrtyd Wells has been presented with a scroll by the town council in recognition of his voluntary work in the area.

Jason Lambie-Baker, an Airforce Cadet with 579 Squadron, Llandrindod Wells, approached the council at the beginning of the summer to ask if he could volunteer to litter pick in his hometown of Llanwrtyd Wells as part of the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award he is working towards with Air Cadets.

Issued with appropriate safety clothing and equipment Jason took on his mission, volunteering one hour a week for three months and litter picked at the Dolwen Field Recreation Ground, the Railway Station and the lay-bys and verges leading into and out of town. A few weeks after the completion date Jason was surprised and pleased to receive a letter from Llanwrtyd Wells Town Council, inviting him to attend a short presentation ceremony on the Town Square.

The ceremony was attended by family, friends, 579 Squadron Airforce Cadets (from Llanwrtyd) and staff members, representatives from Cambrian Archers (where Jason is currently undertaking the physical element of his DofE Award), Llanwrtyd’s PCSO and Llanwrtyd’s town councillors.

The scroll was presented by the current Mayor of Llanwrtyd Wells, Cllr Sarah Jones on Wednesday, September, 20.

The Mayor gave a short speech thanking Jason for his hard work and commitment.
