SOME of the world's top cyclists are to race through the streets of Brecon and Radnorshire's major towns.

The Welsh stage of the Tour of Britain, featuring Welsh Olympic gold medalist Geraint Thomas who has been named in Team Sky's six strong squad for the week long race, will this year visit Brecon for the first time in its current format.

Last year the tour, Britain's premier professional cycling event, restored its Welsh leg for the first time since the race was re-established in 2005 and teams passed through Llandrindod and Builth Wells as they raced from Newtown to Swansea.

This year's Welsh stage on Wednesday, September 14, starts at Powis Castle in Welshpool and heads south through Powys and the Brecon Beacons before finishing in Caerphilly barely four hours later.
