On Saturday, 6 April, Reg Cawthorne, then High Sheriff of Powys, took a road trip to Talgarth for one of the final engagements of his year in office to meet volunteers at Talgarth Community Library and to learn about their work.

The High Sheriff of Powys has emphasised the contribution made by volunteers to communities across Powys throughout his term of office and was struck by the breadth of their own volunteer team, drawn from Bronllys, Talgarth and Three Cocks and ranging in age from 15 years old to their early 80s.

Commenting on the visit, the outgoing High Sheriff said: “I really enjoyed the visit and the cake! The volunteers are a great bunch and provide a much appreciated service for people in the area. I salute them for their efforts”

Gaynor Richards of Gwernyfed who represents the Library volunteers on Talgarth and District Regeneration Group, thanked the High Sheriff of Powys for his visit and added by saying: “We are keen to extend further our opening hours and range of services for the community. Anyone who would like more information or would like to join the team, please email [email protected] or feel free to call at the library.

“We would be delighted to hear from you!”
